Should I Go to the Gym This Year?
As we all already know, the looming presence of COVID-19 has made literally everything much more inconvenient. Gyms have closed, which has made it much harder to get the exercise that many of us were used to getting.
With many of them reopening, however, does that mean it’s safe to go back and start pumping the iron again? Read on as our team at AFC Urgent Care Fountain City helps walk you through it.
Are Gyms Safe?
It’s a good question. Gyms are regarded as one of the higher-risk places you can go in regard to the coronavirus.
Most gyms are doing a solid job at implementing health safety precautions, however, so it’s a good idea to call your local gym to see if it’s limiting how many members are allowed in at the same time. You might have to reserve a block of time in advance, with staff cleaning the facility between blocks.
Ways to Stay Safe in the Gym
- Wash your hands with soap and water after using equipment.
- Shower ASAP after you’ve finished your workout.
- Don’t share personal care items with others.
- Germ-proof gym equipment once you’ve finished using it.
What Are Other Ways to Get a Good Workout Without Going to the Gym?
While gyms offer lots of great equipment, there are other (and cheaper) ways to get the workout that your body needs!
At-home and bodyweight exercises are great substitutes for going to the gym. There are lots of great videos on the internet to walk you through how to burn fat and gain muscle without having to leave your home! If you are specifically looking for a cardio workout, go outside. Jogging, sprinting or doing bodyweight exercises outdoors offers both physical and mental benefits.
